Average on Fall 2003 Third Exam was 57.8, the curve was 12 points

Four hundred thirty-four students took exam three in STAT 2023 during Fall 2003. The average on the third exam was 57.8. To adjust the mean to be close to 70 a 12 point add-on curve was assigned to each exam grade. The test scores had a standard deviation of 18.5, which was less spread than on exam two. The median grade for raw scores on exam three was 58. Notice how much closer the mean and median are on exam three, than on exam one. The distribution of the exam three scores was much more symmetric than for exam one. The distributions for exam two and exam three had similar symmetry.
